bay leaves

allspice or cloves
Instructions
Thoroughly brown the meat on all sides in hot fat, turn often.
Add water, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, sliced onion, bay leaves, and seasonings.
Cover, simmer (don’t boil) for 1 1/2 hours; stir occasionally.
Remove bay leaves and garlic cloves.
Add carrots, onions, and potatoes. Cook until tender.
