Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef chuck
- 2 tbsp fat
- 2 cup boiling water
- 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 1-2 bay leaves
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Sugar
- 1/2 tsp Pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- Dash allspice or cloves

Instructions
- Thoroughly brown the meat on all sides in hot fat, turn often.
- Add water, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, sliced onion, bay leaves, and seasonings.
- Cover, simmer (don't boil) for 1 1/2 hours; stir occasionally.
- Remove bay leaves and garlic cloves.
- Add carrots, onions, and potatoes. Cook until tender.
